Itinerary

Due to the unpredictable nature of travel in general and African travel in particular, all trip details are subject to change.

DAY 1:  Get picked up at Lusaka airport. Afternoon rest, group meeting and dinner. Overnight at Pioneer Lodge, Lusaka.

DAY 2:  After breakfast, return to airport, fly to Mfuwe in Eastern Province, gateway to S. Luangwa National Park.
Lunch, afternoon relaxation and yoga, evening game drive, dinner. Overnight at Flatdogs Camp.

DAY 3:  Morning game drive/walk, evening game drive, group activity, meals. Overnight at Flatdogs.

DAY 4:  All day game drive to remote northern sector of park. Overnight at Flatdogs.

DAY 5:  Meetings and game drives with conservationists and tribal elder. Overnight at Flatdogs.

DAY 6:  Village volunteer workday.  Meet with Community Resource Board to learn about changes facing community-led conservation. Overnight at Flatdogs.

DAY 7:  Possible morning game drive. Visit Kawaza Village—participate in village life as guests. Overnight at Kawaza Village.

Flatdogs Camp

DAY 8:  Fly back to Lusaka, travel by road to Kafue National Park. Evening game drive. Overnight at McBrides Camp.

DAYS 9-10:  Activities at McBrides, depending on what wildlife appears, including game drives, game walks, boating on river. Overnight at McBrides.

DAY 11:  Morning wildlife activity.  Return to Lusaka.  Overnight at Kilimanjaro Country Lodge.

DAY 12:  Volunteer in urban informal settlement with People’s Process on Housing and Poverty in Zambia and Zambia Homeless and Poor People’s Federation. Overnight at Kilimanjaro.

DAY 13:  Opportunities for morning souvenir shopping if desired.  Fly to Livingstone.  Dinner of exotic African game (exotic vegetarian offerings also available). Overnight at Zig Zag B & B.

DAY 14:  Early morning walking tour of Victoria Falls (before crowds dominate the site), boat to Livingstone Island overlooking the top of the Falls, with brunch. Afternoon — rest time, more exploration of Falls, possibility to book various activities at own expense. Overnight at Zig Zag.

DAY 15:  Breakfast, departure. Transportation to airport for departing flights.

Optional Botswana Extension

DAY 15: Drive to Zambezi River border crossing, cross on ferry, short drive to Kasane, Botswana.  Lunch, afternoon game viewing from boat on Chobe River.

DAY 16:  Morning and evening game drives in Chobe National Park.

DAY 17:  Breakfast, departure. Transportation to airport for departing flights.

Botswana extension: $450 pp (based on double occupancy).

Included

All accommodations, meals, internal transportation in Zambia (including 3 domestic flights), airport transportation at start and end of trip, park fees, guide fees, laundry, all group activities.

Not Included

Transportation to and from Zambia (but we are happy to help you find the best flights), Zambia visa ($50, obtainable at airport upon arrival) vaccinations or other prophylaxis, trip insurance, drinks, tips.

This trip is a great value.

You will stay in comfortable, often spectacular, accommodations; you will be well fed; you will be well taken care of.

To maintain an intimate group and wildlife viewing experience, the trip is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.
